KWL charts are my favorite pre and post assessments to use. They tap into the students previous knowledge, allows them to develop and ask questions, then finally self reflect on what they learned.
The issue with the traditional "KWL" is that it doesn't incorporate students' ideas of actions to take in the learning. The possibilities for students to engage in their own learning are endless. That's why I had to share this post from @langwitches's blog!
This is a great Pre and Post formative assessment. fantastic for PYP teachers.
